This is a photo of my great uncle’s South Dakota regiment in the Spanish American War in the Philippines.  My great uncle (back right) was Levi Heald, of Hawarden, Iowa, who, at the beginning of the war in 1898, was sent to defend the people of the country against the Rebels that were trying to take down the country.  He was wounded in the leg and was crippled for the rest of his life.  No one knows who the other men in the group were but I’m sure that they too fought for the freedom of the Philippines.  I would like to know who the other soldiers were so that I could send them a copy of the photo.
